# NYSE Arca Equity Indices

## Overview <a href="#overview" id="overview"></a>

The American Stock Exchange (AMEX) created and published a series of indices for select sectors and industry groups. The AMEX has since been taken over by NYSE Euronext and these indices are now listed as NYSE Arca Equity Indices and NYSE American Equity Indices. Some of the more popular indices include the NYSE Arca Airline Index ($XAL) and the NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index ($XNG).
